He has been named Magician of the Century and Magician of the Millennium. His face graces the postage stamps of six different countries, making him the only living magician to receive this honor. He’s won over 21 Emmy awards for his groundbreaking television specials. Year after year, he continues to tour sold-out arenas throughout the world. He holds 11 Guinness World Records and has sold more tickets than any other solo entertainer in history, with ticket sales in the billions—more than Frank Sinatra, more than Michael Jackson, more than Elvis.
David’s proudest achievement, however, is Project Magic, a program that uses magic as therapy in a thousand hospitals in 30 countries worldwide. Michael is an Associate Principal with Perkins Eastman based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dallas, Texas. He has been practicing for more than 10 years working on a diverse range of project types across the globe. Across a range of program and scale, Michael focuses on the connections that design can make through informed contextual and community cues, finding inspiration in legacies of design thinking as well as places where there is a constant questioning and embrace of social, economic, and political influences. He strives to mutually root projects into place and condition in order to create intentional impact upon the built environment. Michael’s work on the pro-bono revisioning of Thanks-Giving Square in Dallas to leading a study of ATT’s relocation to the Field District in Downtown Dallas are noted examples.
Michael’s approach is further informed through his experience contributing to publications such as The Architects Newspaper, Texas Architect, and D Magazine. He also values the role academics can play in practice, continuing to serve as a lecturer in the Master of Arts in Design and Innovation Program at SMU and through his tenure on the Dean’s Advisory Council at his alma mater Kansas State University.
